STATUS GUIDE

What Your Status Means

Vietnam's official e-visa portal shows one of four statuses. Here's what each one means and what to do next.

Approved / Granted

Your visa is ready

Your Vietnam e-visa has been approved. Download and print the document from the official portal — you must carry a printed copy when entering Vietnam. Verify that your name, passport number, entry/exit dates, and permitted ports of entry are all correct before travelling.

Pending / Processing

Application is being reviewed

Your application is still being processed by the Vietnam Immigration Department. Standard processing takes 3 working days; urgent processing takes 1 working day. If it has been more than 5 working days with no update, contact our team for assistance.

Rejected

Application not approved

Common reasons include incorrect personal information, passport discrepancies, or a system flag. Check the rejection reason on the portal, correct the issue, and re-apply. Contact our team — we can identify the problem and guide you through a successful re-application.

Not Found

Application not located

Likely reasons: the registration code was typed incorrectly (check O vs 0, I vs 1), the date of birth doesn't match what was submitted, or you applied very recently (allow 24 hours for the system to update). Double-check all fields and try again.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

At least 6 months validity from your intended entry date. Must have at least one blank page for the immigration stamp.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entry Requirements
for Vietnam

Beyond your e-visa, border officers may check the following at immigration. Having these documents ready ensures a smooth arrival at any Vietnamese international airport or land crossing.

Valid Passport
Must have at least 6 months validity remaining from your entry date. Ensure your passport is undamaged — a damaged passport may be refused by immigration.
Printed E-Visa
You must carry a printed copy of your approved e-visa. A digital copy on your phone is not accepted as the primary document at Vietnamese immigration counters.
Return / Onward Ticket
Proof of your flight out of Vietnam (or onward to another country) may be requested. Airlines may also ask for this before you board your inbound flight.
Proof of Funds
Immigration can ask for evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or a recent bank statement showing an adequate balance is sufficient.
Accommodation Address
Your first accommodation address in Vietnam. A hotel booking confirmation is the easiest proof — keep it printed or accessible on your phone.
Authorised Entry Point
You must enter through a border gate specified on your e-visa. Check your visa document for permitted ports of entry before booking connecting flights or land transfers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Vietnam Visa Questions

Common questions about Vietnam e-visa applications, status checks, and what to do if things go wrong.

The standard Vietnam e-visa takes 3 working days to process. Urgent processing (1 working day) is available on the official portal for an additional fee. Always apply at least 5–7 days before your travel date to allow for any delays.
"Not Found" usually means the registration code was entered incorrectly, the application was submitted very recently and hasn't been indexed yet, or there is a mismatch between the code and date of birth entered. Double-check your confirmation email and try again after 24 hours if you applied very recently.
Your registration code (also called application code) is in the confirmation email you received after submitting your Vietnam e-visa application on the official portal (evisa.gov.vn). It typically starts with letters followed by numbers, for example: EB2024XXXXXXXX. Check your spam folder if you cannot find the email.
The Vietnam e-visa is valid for up to 90 days from the date of issuance and allows multiple entries. You must enter Vietnam within the validity period shown on your visa. The visa does not begin counting from your entry date — it starts from the date of issue.
Vietnam e-visas cannot currently be extended online. If you need more time in Vietnam, you must exit the country and re-apply for a new e-visa, or visit a local immigration office in Vietnam to apply for a visa extension in-person. Contact our team for guidance on the best option for your situation.
If your application is rejected, the official portal will show a rejection reason. Common reasons include incorrect personal information, missing documents, or applying from an ineligible nationality. You can re-apply after correcting the issues. Contact our team — we assist Indian travelers with Vietnam visa applications and can help identify and fix the problem.
Yes — Indian passport holders require a visa to enter Vietnam. However, the process is fully online since Vietnam expanded its e-visa scheme in 2023 to cover all nationalities. Indian citizens can apply directly at evisa.gov.vn and receive a 90-day multiple-entry e-visa with no embassy visit, no interview, and no letter of approval required. The standard fee is approximately USD 25.
The Vietnam e-visa costs approximately USD 25 for standard processing (3 working days). An urgent 1-working-day processing option is available for a higher fee. Payment is made online via card on the official evisa.gov.vn portal. There are no additional government fees. Third-party agencies may add service charges — apply directly on the official portal to avoid unnecessary costs.
To apply for a Vietnam e-visa you need: (1) a valid passport with at least 6 months validity from your intended entry date and at least one blank page; (2) a recent passport-size digital photograph with a white background; (3) a scan of your passport bio-data page; (4) a credit or debit card for the application fee; (5) a confirmed accommodation address in Vietnam. No embassy appointment, invitation letter, or sponsor is required for Indian citizens.
To enter Vietnam you need: (1) a valid passport with at least 6 months remaining validity from your entry date; (2) a Vietnam e-visa or other valid visa; (3) a return or onward travel ticket; (4) proof of sufficient funds for your stay; and (5) a confirmed accommodation address in Vietnam. You must enter through one of the authorised international border gates — the major international airports, designated land border checkpoints, or authorised sea border crossings. Your e-visa specifies the permitted ports of entry, so always verify these before booking connecting flights.
Yes — as of 2024, Vietnam offers visa-free access to citizens of 45+ countries for stays of 14 to 90 days. ASEAN member nations (Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines) enjoy 30-day visa-free entry. Several European nations including Germany, France, the UK, Italy, and Spain receive 45-day visa-free entry. Japan, South Korea, Russia, and several other countries are also on the visa-free list. Indian passport holders are not currently on the visa-free list and require a Vietnam e-visa.
Vietnam visa on arrival (VOA) is only available as a pre-arranged service — you must obtain a letter of approval from an authorised agency before travelling, then collect the visa sticker at the airport on arrival. This is more expensive and slower than the e-visa. Since August 2023, the Vietnam e-visa covers all nationalities including India, so the online e-visa via evisa.gov.vn is the recommended, faster, and cheaper option for Indian travellers. There is no need to use a third-party agency for the e-visa — apply directly on the official portal.
The Vietnam e-visa is accepted at all major international airports (Noi Bai/Hanoi, Tan Son Nhat/HCMC, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Cam Ranh/Nha Trang, Van Don, and others), plus designated land and sea border crossings. Your e-visa document specifies which entry points are permitted — always check this before travelling. If you plan to enter via a land border from Cambodia, Laos, or China, ensure your visa specifically permits that checkpoint, as entry through an unauthorised gate will be refused.
Travel insurance is not a mandatory requirement for obtaining a Vietnam e-visa or entering the country. However, it is strongly recommended. Medical care in Vietnam can be expensive for foreigners, and a good policy covers emergency hospitalisation, medical evacuation, trip cancellation, and lost luggage. We suggest purchasing a policy that includes at least USD 50,000 in medical coverage — particularly if you plan adventure activities such as motorbike tours, Sapa trekking, or Ha Long Bay kayaking.
Yes — Vietnam made major policy changes in August 2023. The e-visa validity was extended from 30 days (single entry) to 90 days (multiple entry), making it one of the most flexible e-visa schemes in Southeast Asia. Eligibility was also expanded to citizens of all 198 countries and territories. Vietnam also extended visa-free durations for many European, Asian, and ASEAN nationalities. These changes came into effect on 15 August 2023 under the amended Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam.
Once your Vietnam e-visa is approved: (1) Download and print your e-visa — you must carry a printed copy at Vietnamese immigration. (2) Check all details carefully: name spelling, passport number, nationality, date of birth, visa validity dates, and permitted ports of entry. (3) If any detail is incorrect, contact the Vietnam Immigration Department immediately to request a correction before your travel date. (4) Keep a digital backup on your phone. (5) Ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity remaining on your entry date. Contact our team if you need help verifying your visa or planning your trip.
